The Pelican Crew

Hailing from Connecticut, Charles has never been far from the water. He has sailed up and down the U.S. east coast, and crossed the Atlantic Ocean to Europe, working on sailing vessels ranging from tall ships to pocket cruisers. With more than a decade now as a professional mariner, there isn’t a boat Charlie can’t sail. He also has a Bachelor’s in Maritime Studies from Texas A&M University at Galveston, with a focus on Nautical Archaeology and Maritime Anthropology. Charlie has been in Charleston for five years now, and has keen knowledge and appreciation for both the harbor and its maritime history.

Captain
Blake grew up sailing in the waterways of the southeast from the Carolinas to the Florida Keys. He has also sailed with Pelican around the Caribbean – to Cuba, Mexico, Jamaica, and the islands. Blake’s full-time job is as a professor of International Studies at the College of Charleston, where he teaches courses on Caribbean history and culture, maritime history, and environmental change in the Lowcountry and around the world. He believes, though, that learning comes best from real experience. Sailing the waterways of Charleston, and talking about the histories all around us, inspired Blake to start Pelican Tours with his nephews and his brother Howard. He’s happy to tell you a story, answer questions, or just sit back and enjoy the diving seabirds and dolphins sharing the harbor with us.

Captain
Jason is an outgoing, adventurous, and vibrant person who grew up in landlocked Dallas, TX. His love of the water brought him to Charleston.
Prior to being a sailboat enthusiast, he was a PGA professional golfer playing on the PGA South American Tour. Following his retirement from the Tour (20 years ago) he has been a teaching Pro. So if you are a golfer you may get a 2 for 1 - great sailing and a golf tip!
